Cheap and Healthy

Since we're talking about food.....,here is an excellent post about budgeting. Great ideas and lots of links to research.

Right, the salmon and ground beef I mentioned in yesterday's post are not cheap but combined with some of these suggestions you will be well on your way to cheap and healthy eating.

One more thing, I don't recommend stealing condiments from local fast food joints. It was this gentleman that thought that might be one more way to save money. I don't believe that is right. Sure, if you end up with extra in your bag when you leave the drive thru, fine. But don't take extra just because you are on a tight budget. I once saw an elderly man fill his pockets with packets of mustard after eating a hotdog at Costco. My son and I stared in amazement.

Let's try again.

Crazy google sign in.

I absolutely believe it is stealing to take extra for restaurants.
We would love to take the big fat straws from McDonald's...but it is stealing in my book.

What do you all think of Soy milk or Almond Milk?

I think Camy makes her own Almond Milk.

Those big fat straws are tempting aren't they? :)

Janet, thanks for the links. Seriously, $30 per month for food?? How would a family do that? But I would like any tips on feeding my family for less $$$.

Donna, I had a friend who was being treated for cancer naturally. His naturopath told him to drink almond milk. If he didn't care for almond milk, he was to drink goat's milk then rice milk. He was told to avoid cow and soy milk.

Where's the post on sunscreens?

My boys like soy, but I like almond best. You have to be careful because the flavored ones get up there in sugar count. My kids miss tapioca and rice pudding so I will be attempting tapioca with soy milk this weekend, I'll let you know how it turns out. I will not mess with Aunt Dorothy's rice pudding recipe so that will have to be a rare treat.
Janet, how are you feeling?

Janice, Dave says not to feed your boys Soy, it has estrogen in it. Here is a series of articles that I just found after a quick google search.

I'm feeling better but Dave is home sick today. It was the real flu complete with fever, aches and pains, chills and now congestion. Joy.

one would need to drink an awful lot of soy to have it make any difference

finally, today, 5 days later, I am feeling like myself, except a few pounds lighter, yeah!!!

Janice-
There are so many things that we eat that have soy in them so we probably get a lot more soy than we think. I used to give my boys soy and then read about the estrogen-like properties so I immediately stopped it.
I have heard that soy is supposed to be good for women going through "the change". But, due to the fact that I'm younger than ya'll I haven't really researched it!!!
tee hee : )

OH MY GOSH! I think I am a stealer! ( My boys say, "Mom, are you gaffin' cream again!". ) I usually take 3 or four creams with my coffee, only use one in the coffee and have a couple of extras for the house! I love half and half but don't want a whole carton in the house!

FORGIVE ME!!! I'll try and break this habit when I go to McDs!!

You are sooooo funny Kelli!! :)

My dear sil had a very early hysterectomy due to many medical problems and she has been told to drink/eat soy products. (by someome interested in natural health issues, not her ob/gyn)

The slang 'riding dirty' means to be breaking the law, doing something wrong. It's gangsta talk.

Cream stealing problem UPDATE:

I drove through McDs this morning on my way to school and ordered coffee...BLACK!! PHEW! I may be on my way to recovery!!

Have a nice day!! ;)

Anonymous said...

uh oh, now do we need to have the 'Fast Food' conversation !!!

Janet said...

Cindy, you can take as many creams as you need for your coffee, no need to drink it black now. Although we did just teach the kids that true repentance is turning away from your sin (180 degrees away from it). So, essentially you did just that. :)

You are a dear, Miss Cindy.

HEY JANICE...I really just got coffee!! BLACK! I AM SAVED!! ;)

and if they give you extra creams in the drive thru and you save those, well, thats just helping keep the earth green and not wasting !!

thanks for the link

I don't recomend just grabbing packets of Ketchup, just to be grabbing. However, I have a small stash that I have received when I was going my frequently.

In fact, people just grabbing such packets is why, I believe, fast food places started keeping them behind the counter and only giving them out on request. I still get more then I need.

thanks for the link again.
