Cleansing!

Have you ever read/tried The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs? I am giving it a try this week. I officially started last night.

Great website here. Purchase the book here.

According to Burroughs the purpose is:

"to dissolve and eliminate toxins and congestion that have formed in any part of the body.

to cleanse the kidneys and the digestive system.

to purify the glands and cells throughout the entire body.

the eliminate all unusable waste and hardened material in the joints and muscles.

to relieve pressure and irritation in the nerves, arteries and blood vessels.

to build a healthy blood stream.

and to keep youth and elasticity regardless of our years."

Janet's Top Ten Reasons to Cleanse

10. I eat way too much junk food
9. My joints ache
8. I am a Diet Coke addict
7. Therefore I am addicted to caffeine
6. My cholesterol is slightly over 200
5. I am over weight and hope to lose ALOT!
4. My digestive system is not what it ought to be, nuff said
3. Free and fresh lemons in the backyard
2. I enjoy torturing myself

and the number one reason for Janet to cleanse is "To keep youth and elasticity regardless of my years" Hey, I just turned forty!

******************

I will not share the gory details of this cleanse with you. If my husband had a blog he would and he would do so gladly. I will answer a few questions if asked and would love to hear from anyone who has tried this themselves. All I will say is that so far I feel great and empty. :)

Well...we are going to have to talk....cause you know me...I like to know all the gorey details!
How are you feeling and how long do you intend to fast?

I have been been a little light-headed today. I backed off caffeine over the weekend so today I only have a little headache. Otherwise I feel good. I should do this cleanse for 10 days. I don't know if I can make it that long. Pray for me.

Well, Janice, are you "in"?

Steve already bailed, he ate a cheeseburger.

Wondered if you have a more acidy stomach while doing this? I suffer if I drink orange juice in the mornings, I'm interested... but leery about the side affects I'll experience. Mostly acid stomach.
Good luck...and hang in there!

lammyann, so far so good. I do not struggle with stomach acid normally and this is not hard on my stomach. My biggest complaint so far is the headache.

I can't get past the idea that you are giving up caffeine. But... but... Wow. I'm impressed. :-)

Will be praying for a good experience and forward progress on your ultimate goals!

I've never seen that book before, but I've done something similar in the past. AAMOF, I drink lemon juice and cayenne pepper pretty regularly just for the fun of it.
;-)

No maple syrup, though. I can't handle the sugar.

Oh, Janet, thanks for the links. I have printed and saved this for the *right* time in my life. The last time I tried a fast (right before my wedding), I failed....probably due to a poor choice in timing. Nevertheless, I want to try this sometime. But right now, I have just finished three days of a high protein low carb diet and lost three pounds. Going to go with this until I lose to my goal.

Kelly, I'm glad this inspired you! Did you know that pure Maple syrup (grade B or C) is low on the glycemic index and does not cause spikes in blood sugar levels? I have a 'lemonade' every two to three hours and so I think my blood sugar is staying at a healthy level. I don't have those horrible ups and downs. Anyway, just thought I'd share...

Dana, you're right! Picking just the right time is key to success on this cleanse. I knew that we would not be entertaining or have any major social events where food is the focus. We have a (relatively speaking) quiet week. Congrats on your weight loss success. I would like to go back to that way of eating when I finish this cleanse.

Kelly,
this is belated but...lemon juice is actually alkaline in our bodies...this cleanse is designed to bring a persons body back to an alakline state, we are all very acidic, especially with our American diet ...disease, toxins cannot survive in an alkaline state and therefore gets flushed out

Just so you know Janet, you all are really cramping my style with this cleansing thing. I mean, how's a person supposed to go out and enjoy pizza or Chipotle alone? I'm counting down the days...

P.S. I really am proud of you girls - I won't mention Steve - hang in there!

Thanks, Janet. I don't know much about glycemic indexing, but I saw where he mentioned diabetics should use molasses instead of maple syrup, at first any way. I'm not diabetic, but I do tend to get a hyper-insulin response and have to be careful. Also, I'm out of organic maple syrup, but I did happen to have lots of organic blackstrap molasses on hand.

But anyway, I caved by the end of the day. I was tired and cranky and headachy and hungry, and of course my dear daughter had already planned to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies, and then my dh, who sweetly made supper to help me out, forgot why he was helping me out and brought me a plate full of delicious food.... and I caved.

Well, I'm back on today. :-D
