The Greek and The Dane turn 40!

Today, March 27th, we officially celebrate our fortieth birthday!! We've really been celebrating for days...

Happy Birthday to my precious twin, Janice. And Happy Birthday to me too :-)

Janice is on the left and I am on the right. Isn't that a great pic. Maybe my sisters can fill in the details of when it was taken and at whose house. Hmmm, maybe it was our house.

My dad was mostly Greek and my mom was 100% Danish. What a fun surprise to have twins that looked like each. Janice with brown hair, brown eyes and beautiful olive skin and me with blond hair, blue eyes and fair skinned. (I'll have you know I work very hard and spend a lot of money to keep my Danish looks ;-)).

We had several nicknames as little ones:

Ike and Mike
Midnight and Daylight
The Greek and The Dane
Jan and Jan
'A' baby and 'B' baby

I was also called "Tiny" by our housekeeper. I was very skinny as a little girl.

I would love to get a record number of comments today just for kicks. Forty would be amazing! I am not to proud to add to the number if necessary :-) So, say hello if you wouldn't mind.

Here are a few more pictures for your viewing pleasure. This is what I saw when I went to my workout at 5:45 am. This is the work of my sil Melody and her two children.

Happy Birthday! Your blog is so fun. This is the first time I have read it - thank Donna for the referral.

Oh my goodness!!! Melody is sooo funny to tp your house!

You must count all of the birthday comments from Friday's blog.

Isn't this fun.

You and Janice are also called

'A' baby and 'B' baby

I think the darling picture of you and Janice is in Wheaton on the living room couch.

Happy day!

Hey, I live near Wheaton, I turned 40 last year, and we have pictures of me at about the same age with the same haircut. (My mom called it a "shag.")

Came over from Quiet Life. Happy Birthday!!

Hey, Birthday girl! Happy Birthday! and Happy Birthday to your twinie too! Oh, I love pictures of you precious girls. I love your baby walking shoes. Do you have the darling one with you pushing Janice on the cute wooden giraffe? How about those colors in the living room!?? And please don't say you see the plastic on the couch??

A few of my favorite memories of you begin in Elmhurst...you and Janice would rock your cribs across the hardwood floors until you were closer to each other! As you got older, when we lived in Wheaton you had your own room, with each other YET you would end up in our twin beds nightly!! We never convinced you to go and sleep in each others bed in the same room!!

You have been such a delight in my life and our entire family. (Even tho I WAS THE BABY for so many years and you stole my thunder!) I am so proud of what beautiful women you both have become and I know Mom and Dad would be so proud too!

Happy 40th my sweet sister!
I love you so very much!

Me again!! I was afraid I would run out of room. I'm typing from Susie's computer in her house...(Oh, yeah, Sue I hope you don't mind!) Sue is off skiing with the family and I am here feeding her cat. He is the most purry, chatty cat I have ever heard!! In case Sue doesn't get on line today...I know she would want to wish you girls a HAPPY 40th Birthday too, and be a part of the big blog count!!

I know Sue would be sure to share memories of how she taught you girls how to swim and how much she loves you too!

have a great day..it looks like your celebrating is already beginning! I love the TP job!!

hus and kisses,

Happy, happy birthday!! (I'm glad your sisters didn't think to call you Thing One and Thing Two!) Love the shag. I had one, too.

God bless you!

Happy Birthday! Donna sent me over. Love the Tp photo. Hoping you two have your best years yet.

The TP job is a riot, Janet. I was quite the TP queen when I was a naughty teen, but I don't think I'd have the guts to do it now (-:

I hope you have a marvelous birthday AND a great year of being 40!

Warm wishes,
Diane

Hi Janet-
I have enjoyed your comments on Donna's page. I used to live in Madison and am a friend of Donna. I have heard lots about the family in our conversations.

Have a very Happy 40th! The 40s are wonderful but not as good as turning 30, in my opinion.

Happy Birthday Janet!!!
I'm here from Donna's blog. Now I have another lovely blog to add to my daily reading.

My identical twin boys turned 3 yesterday, so I'm always interested in twin life. If you don't mind me asking, did your mother know she was having twins before you were born? I have twin cousins who are 45. Their mother didn't know she was having twins until the nurse called the doctor back into the delivery room and said "Get back in here. We've got another baby coming!"

I hope you and your sister have a wonderful birthday!

I have one little sister whom I love dearly, but all of you girls make me want many more sisters!

Happy Birthday Janet and to Janice! What a sweet picture. That is really neat that each one of you look so much like one parent. :-)

You are all such sweet, sweet women, I am blessed by the way you all show your love to one another so sweetly.

The tp job is a a riot and the over the hill drawing a HOOT!

Many blessings on your birthday!!!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Janet
Happy Birthday to you.

What a great age (I am 40 for a few more months)!!!

My oldest two kids are 1/4 Greek. One has dark hair the other used to be a blonde but now has brown hair but much lighter than his sister's.

How much fun!! Happy wishes to you and your twin!

Happy Birthday, Janet and Janice! I love hearing about your family.

How about Fric and Frac? No? Okay, the Greek and the Dane it is.

I hope your day is fantabulous!

Hello Wendy! Thank you for coming by!! Thank goodness for Donna's readers. LOL.

Our mother found out on March 8th that she was carrying twins. Poor dear couldn't fit behind the wheel of her car.

We were 8 minutes apart and I think we both weighed around 5 lbs plus a few ounces. Donna, is it true that I was breech?? And one more thing, our mother was RH- so we almost needed blood transfusions. Exciting times :)

Donna Boucher said...

Janet,

Janice was breech!

Mom did not know what breech was!
She had a dream (during the delivery) that one of you had died. So when she woke up from the ether....she asked to see "Both if my babies" at the same time!

I remember mom telling me this story. It was the beginning of my love for birth stories!

Donna...Ether!?!! Janet and Janice are not THAT OLD! They used ether to put people to sleep 40 years ago?? MY STARS!!

OK...now I am at school...checkin' in..I couldn't stand not finding out how many posts you had so far! I'll call later on tonight for an update.

Jan...I forgot about the RH- blood...you were a little puny thing weren't you!!

more later...
me :)

Donna Boucher said...

Hey-Cindy- It was some kind of gas(medicine) that made her fall asleep and dream crazy dreams. So, it may not be ether. But that is what I imagined when she told me.

Am I remembering correctly about Janice being the breech baby???

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANET!
I hope you have a great day.

I have twins also, twice the fun.

Well lookie here. Miss Janice is the 39th and 40th comment on this very special day of comments. She has never even visited my blog and just happened to stop in for a little visit. It's a twin thing. I'm not kidding about that.

Maybe Janice will become a regular visitor now that her internet is spruced up.

Janice reminded me of yet another nickname: Jingle and Jangle.

I'm just popping back to see if you made it to the 40 comments - you did!!! Hope your day has been a lovely one!

Thank you for indulging my nosiness!!
One of my twins was breech. He was pulled out feet first almost an hour after his brother was born. I wouldn't have minded a little ether!

Happy Birthday Janet (and Janice). The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you peace. Happy 40th. Don't you remember when that seemed sooooooo old? Hehe. Positively ancient!

Happy birthday, a day late, Janet (but the best birthdays last a week or so). I'm mailing your books tomorrow, maybe I will have to tuck in a surprise!

You are gorgeous in your wedding picture below. Did you like my blonde joke? Gracie blurts funny blonde things all the time.

Love,
Carmon

My goodness, you've certainly made it far beyond 40 comments. But happy birthday from a stranger anyway...all the way from France. Came via Quiet Life. How many of you sisters are there, anyway? Seems like at least four? No brothers?

Happy happy birthday, from all of us to you, we wish it was our birthday, so we could party too! Hey! Or we could just party with you anyway. :-D

I hope they didn't TP any cacti...I heard from a friend that when TP gets rained on while on cacti it is almost impossible to get it off without getting poked!

Missed the big day...but it must have been special by the looks of your trees!!!! :o)
All the best to you and your sister.

I can not believe that you and Janice are 40! I still remember your birth, and my mother going to your house to sit with the kids. I can remember pushing both of you in a double stroller down Prospect Street and I felt SO special to be pushing that stroller..it was a novelty! No one had one! :) Happy Happy Birthday and you must be counting by 2's to get to 40!

Im glad Cindy blogged in for me. She did a good job kitty sitting. I will call you soon. Sorry I missed your big day...that means I missed Emma's too. Skiing was fun, but so much work. Congratulations on all your hits, and Happy Birthday little one! susie

I hope it's not too late to post
And wish a grand year to you both.
A stranger who reads Naddy B,
I clicked a link and here I be!
I know I'm late, but don't complain,
To Ike and Mike; the Greek and Dane;
I wish more than you can conceive,
You'll from the Father's hand, receive.

Happy Birthday.
