A Heritage

Lauren and I ran in to the Mobil to grab a Diet Coke and apple juice and we had a very sad conversation at the check out. It went something like this.

Mean Lady to Lauren: Do you want one of these Halloween bags?

Lauren: Sure!

Mean Lady: Do you have any brothers or sisters? Would they like one?

Lauren holding her fingers up: Yes, I have 4 sisters and 1 brother? (close enough)

Mean Lady looking at me in shock: You have 6 children? (Gasp.Gasp.)

Me: No, actually I have 5 children. We just dropped the others off at school.

Mean Lady: Five Children. (Cough) This must be the happiest time of your day. Getting rid of them.

Me in shock: No, not really.

Mean Lady: Well, how old is the oldest?

Me: Oh, that's my daughter, she's 14.

Really Mean Lady: Ugh. Oh my G*d, that's even worse, a teenager!

Me: No not at all, she's a great girl. (I love you Hannah)

Really Mean Lady: Oh, just you wait, it's coming.

Me: Ok, bye.

Really Mean Lady as were walking out the door: Can you believe that lady has 5 kids. Ugh.

I called Stacey in shock and we have a scheme planned. All of us in the area with large families are going to parade our sweet, polite and well behaved (no, not perfect)children through the Mobil and show this lady what children really are....BLESSINGS!!

Psalm 127:2

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.

UPDATE 1:57 pm
A friend and mother of 9 (yes 9 children) loaded up her kiddos and took them in to the Mobil station. The Really Mean Lady wasn't there, can you believe it? The good news is that a very friendly man complimented my friend on her beautiful and well behaved children. Happy day and nice people.

Don't you wish once in your life you could have a mean spirit and say something mean to her!! Maybe she was jealous because she was not able to have children!( HUM, the Lord works in mysterious ways!!!!)

Yes, Cindy, I do. I wish I was more bold. I don't think she was jealous I think she hates children. XXOO to you.

Hey. At least she didn't ask if you were the GRANDMOTHER :o)

he he

I am thankful I was raised my a mother and a father who loved their babies....and that it comes very easily to do the same with our children.

Don't let the grumpy old ladies get ya down :o)

Humph Jan...my attempt at positive intent doesn't fly with you huh! She was just a mean old lady!!

We try really hard to use positive intent to help our children stay out of their brain stems!! YOu are still in your brain stem about this old lady!! (Conscience Discipline/Brain Smart Discipline by Dr. Becky Bailey)

Cindy, what on earth? :-)

I really believe her heart is hard and she is blinded to God's truth.

I won't dwell in the brain stem any longer. hee hee

I just wish I could waltz in there also. Some people are so sweet about children and others just plain obnoxious.

She is blinded to God's Truth so we should wish her well! I definately LOVE your idea of marching them through her store and don't buy a thing on her shift!!! Did you know these convienent store clerks get recognition for selling things on their shift. When I go to get my french vanilla coffee with half and half from the Petro Mart the guy is always trying to sell me something else. I said,"What are you on commision or soemthing?" and he said kinda. Interesting!!!

ps. I just left you a message on your machine!

What Mobil is it? I go in to the one on 59th and Greenway all the time...I don't know what it's called now, it's recently changed names. I actually send my boys in for me!!! Maybe I should go in too!!!
Also, a quick story (maybe it was the same lady and this didn't help much) Lou and Micah went in to fill up their big cups with water. Micah just walked out and didn't tell the cashier that he only had water (they don't charge for water) and Lou proceeded to go tell the cashier that a young boy just walked out with a drink. Meanwhile, the rest of us were in the car waiting. Micah gets back in and so we're waiting on Lou. Here comes Lou with the cashier (?mean lady) and she asks Lou "Which one?" I have NO idea what's going on. So, Lou points to Micah and says "That's the boy that walked out with a drink!" (I forgot to say that they know Lou very well at this station and they also know he's a deputy.) Anyway, he laughed and thought he was very funny trying to get Micah in trouble. Needless to say, Lou thought he made a funny joke but he may have just made this lady not like children even more!!!

Cindy,
I am very proud of you and your positive attitude !!! We really have no idea why that woman (or anyone) reacts the way she does, but our negative responses just perpetuates negativity...(it makes me sad to think what she could have been through to create that in her)
I also agree with you..our brains are a dangerous place to live !!!

I sympathize with you, Janet. You should hear the comments I recieve when I am out with my four boys. I kindly tell the said "mean lady" that I am not cursed but blessed. Come to think of it, I have never heard a nasty comment from a man......only mean ladies.

To all...
I really do know how to spell "receive" even though I misspelled it in my last post. I happen to be the Spelling Nazi! Please forgive.....
