Thank You and Now, Mt. Vernon!

Donna gave me a gift this morning while I was sleeping. She sent her faithful and wonderful readers my way to see my Washington D.C. pictures and leave me a comment. When I woke up I had 17 comments and I was just sure they were spam. Boy was I surprised to read real comments from real ladies.

THANK YOU TO DONNA'S SWEET FRIENDS!

THANK YOU DEAR, PRECIOUS DONNA!

Mt. Vernon

We rented a van and drove out to Mt. Vernon last Tuesday. It was a nice break from the Metro and city touring and the weather had cooled off considerably.

George and Martha's beautiful Mt. Vernon

One of the many out buildings.

The kitchen. There is a washing area and a storage area inside this building. The cook lived upstairs.

The outhouse aka The Necessary.

The view from their back porch chairs. The Potomac River where George Washington fished for herring and made a fortune. He also made money growing and selling tobacco and wheat but it was the herring that made him the most money.

The girls fell in love with this guy! He was a very, very big mule.

Our visit and time spent here was probably my favorite part of the trip.

You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl.

Mt. Vernon is a beautiful and peaceful estate. I liked the color of the rooms. Did you see the bed where George died?

That is a big mule!

Janet,
Sending you a little bloggy fun made MY day :o)

Love you!

You are sooooo right!

Yes, the rooms were beautiful and the colors inspiring. The furniture was original except for some restoration. Each bedroom had a fireplace and lovely canopy beds. I loved seeing the bassinet and little toddler bed.

Martha moved to one of the third floor bedrooms after George died.

I've been to Washington many times. My dad is buried in Arlington. You're pictures are way better than mine ever were. Thanks for sharing all the beauty to be found there.

Herring, eh?

I never knew that.

Oh, I loved these pictures the best :-) Do you suppose Martha ever had a clue that someday thousands of people would be touring her home?! Yikes! That thought would terrify me! LOL!

Blessings,
Tammy ~@~

Love the photos! Found your blog by way of your sister. I have a sister named Donna also and I love her dearly. She's 10 years older than I and while that made a big difference when she was 18 and dating and I was 8 and a bothersome little sister, we are so close now.

I find your sister's blog very inspirational, both to my soul and to my digital photo taking/editing habit!

I'll have to check back on your blog also.

Take care and have a good night!

I enjoyed your tour of Mt. Vernon. Would you believe I never made it there either, although I had several opportunities to go?

Thanks for the pictures!

I want to live in that kitchen- with a covered walkway to the Necessary. I also want that mule.
Janet, I never realized how beautiful Mt. Vernon is! Your pictures are better than the ones I've seen in brochures, etc. Honestly.
And I love the light on the outhouse picture.

What beautiful photos, Janet! You're as talented as your sister when it comes to photography.

I love all those separate buildings...the kitchen, the outhouse! That kitchen is every woman's dream...it's probably bigger than most houses. LOL And they definitely had a fantastic view from their back porch.

My family and I will have to visit Mt. Vernon one of these days. I wish we did when we were a lot closer, but we just didn't get the chance to do so.

Thank you for giving us a glimpse of your wonderful day!

Toodles for now! :)

Popping in to say "Hi" and tell you how beautiful the photos are. You do an excellent job. This talent must run in the family. Your blog is beautiful and so encouraging. Have a wonderfully blessed day.

I think I'd like the mule best of all. How could I deny those EARS?

I got to see Mt. Vernon when I was sixteen on a trip. I really liked it too. Did you go see Arlington National Cemetery where JFK is buried? I got to see the eternal flame before they extinguished it. It was so funny because I made a remark about to save energy they should turn it off and they did not too long afterward. It was during the 70's and the energy crisis.

junebug, I'm posting pictures of Arlington tomorrow. :)

I am so sorry we never made this trip with our boys. I have never even been to my great embarassment. Looks like you had a wonderful time. I'm teaching pre-kindergartners (like cindy) this summer. I'm exhausted and amazed. Give me gifted 3-5th graders anyday! sister sue
