So Excited!

We are heading to Washington D.C. one week from tomorrow!

Our family is attending an Interstate Battery national convention. All seven of us will be going, my mother-in-law and four employees and their families. Interstate Batteries has always kept their conventions very family friendly and very fun!

I have been busy reading books and web pages to prepare myself and the children.

Can you give my any advice?

We will hit the most obvious tourist sites and we also want to go to the International Spy Museum and the National Zoo.

The company that makes our batteries, JCI, is throwing a huge party at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum ! How cool is THAT?

We are scheduled for a Capital tour. Could not get in to the White House tour. You need to call six months to one year in advance for reservations. Wow.

So, tell me. Have you been to D.C.? And what should we NOT miss?

Oh, we're also going to rent a van and go to Mount Vernon!

We took our whole family a few years ago. It was the best trip ever! Of course all the Smithsonians. Go to Union Station and the Library of Congress. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency which is about three blocks from the capitol and is it ever beautiful to look at the Capitol at night by moonlight. We were also about three blocks from Union Station which is beautiful. I think the whole city is about the best in the world. The James Ford Theater is there. You can walk everywhere. We walked from the Capitol to the all the monuments. I would live there if I could.

Oh my! My sister and her family are going to DC next week!
If you see a blond mom with a big blond husband, 2 blond girls and a little blond boy who lectures everyone about the sites, you'll have found my sister.
You'll have to do lunch together!

And here's where:
the basement of the Capital building has a little diner where all kinds of legal important people (you can tell just by looking at them) eat. I loved getting tickets and sitting in on the Senate but they're probably on summer break now.

Have a WONDERFUL time!

Make sure you see the Viet Nam Memorial. It is moving.
The Mall is very nice at night.

My children loved the Metro.

We loved Mt. Vernon.

We watched them make money at the mint or whatever it's called.

We also loved the White House and have a family picture walking out the front door!

Cool.

Also, Janet, go see th Holocaust Museum. It is unbelievably moving. It has Anne Frank's Annex replica. And when you see the bridge of shoes! You will cry.
