Recipe and Art

Bolognese Sauce with Penne Pasta
Longaberger "Fresh From the Pantry"

2 pounds ripe fresh tomatoes or Italian imported canned tomatoes
1 red onion, finely chopped
2 medium carrot, peeled, finely chopped
2 ribs celery, finely chipped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 C. chopped fresh parsley
1/4 C. olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 C. milk
1/2 cup dry white wine
Salt and pepper to taste
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
1 pound penne pasta, cooked, drained
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Puree tomatoes, discarding seeds. Saute the onion, carrots, celery, garlic and parsley in the olive oil until translucent. Add the ground beef and milk. Cook until the ground beef is brown, stirring until crumbly. Add the tomato puree, wine salt, pepper and nutmeg. Simmer for 30 minutes. Adjust the seasonings. Cook for 20 minutes longer. Remover from the heat. Spoon over the hot cook pasta and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Serves 6

I'll be making this either tonight or tomorrow night.

Doesn't it sound delicious?

I'll serve it with French baguettes and fresh green beans from Costco.

Ciao!

Have you made this before?
It sounds wonderful!

No. But doesn't it seem like a 'no fail' recipe. I can't wait to try it.

all of the Longaberger recipes are tried and true !!! hey what time is dinner?

Whatever time you get here is dinnertime dear Janice. Tonight we're having minestrone soup. Tomorrow is the pasta dinner. Hope to see you for one or both of these. :)

I think I will make this dish also. Are you using fresh or canned tomaotes? If canned, what brand will you use?

Janet said...

I'll use canned, Muir Glen. I got a case at Sam's club!! Cheap :) Will you need to triple this recipe for your boys?

I will at least triple the recipe. Three pounds of pasta should fill them up!

Want to borrow any milk for the recipe? :-) Moooooo!!

Is this part of your Supper Club?

No Dana. Just the supper club that goes on around here on a nightly basis. :)

Do you use whole wheat pasta? I switched and nobody cares. What a breakthrough. My family would even eat this recipe meatless. We love the tomato sauce italian dinner. But these days we're down to 1 pound of pasta :( . I'm thinking about coming to Phoenix. Nancy invited me for my 50th. Trying to figure out a weekend. ttfn. love sue

That would be wonderful Sue!! I would love to celebrate with you, I'm 3 months late, as usual.
