A Must See

The Amazing Grace webpage.

I have not seen the movie yet but two ladies in the blog world have given it great reviews.

Carmon writes about it here.

DHM writes about it here and here.

We hope to see it this weekend. We'll take our 3 oldest; 14, 13, and 11.

Found at Challies.Com

From the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, is scheduled to appear tonight on CNN's Larry King Live. Mohler will discuss the alleged discovery of the "tomb" of Jesus and his family by archaeologists and genetic scientists. A documentary "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," which is said to present the evidence, is scheduled to air next week on the Discovery Channel. Scheduled to appear with Mohler are James Cameron, executive producer of the documentary; Simcha Jacobovici, the director; and James Tabor, chair of religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Larry King Live airs at 9:00 Eastern Time on CNN. The segment on the "Lost Tomb of Jesus" is scheduled to air tonight following an interview with First Lady Laura Bush.

Yesterday Dr. James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries warned us of this documentary.

We had the privilege of having Dr. James White teach our adult Sunday school class and during the morning worship service. If you are not already familiar with Dr. James White's ministry I cannot encourage you enough to become very familiar with it. We have personally known Dr. White for many years and now his Alpha and Omega Ministry office is on our church property. Remember how he got broken in to a few months back? Yeah, that's really bad. Our church is not in the best area of town. I sat under his teaching yesterday for about 2 hours and learned more about Islam than I have in my entire life.

Be sure to watch Larry King Live tonight. And don't believe the Hollywood lies.

Bless Him

Charles Spurgeon on Psalm 100.

"Be thankful unto him. Let the praise be in your heart as well as on your tongue, and let it all be for him to whom it all belongs. And bless his name. He blessed you, bless him in return; bless his name, his character, his person. Whatever he does, be sure that you bless him for it; bless him when he takes away as well as when he gives; bless him as long as you live, under all circumstances; bless him in all his attributes, from whatever point of view you consider him."

We are thankful.

Here is an update on our friend Joshua's health.

Hello Family and Friends,

We wanted to let all of you know about the good news we have received regarding Joshua’s most recent tests – everything is clear and there doesn't seem to be any return of the cancer!

We know that so many of you have continued to pray for Josh and we are so thankful that God has healed his body. He is back to his old self, including a new head of hair! He has gone through such a growth spurt that we can hardly keep up with clothing and shoes for him.

We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday celebration for Josh. He turned 13 on December 27th. Several of his buddies even waited to celebrate their birthdays so that they could all do it together when Josh was finished with treatment.

We don’t have to return to the hospital until the end of May, at which time they will repeat all of the tests again. I will be sure to let everyone know those results.

With much love,

Mike and Stacey

Just look at that beautiful wavy hair. It's downright curly!! All the moms insist on touching it and all the young ladies admire it from afar. ;-)

We love you Josh!

Sisters, Sisters

Sing it with me...

Nancy, Me, Sue and my twin Janice

Sue came for a little visit this weekend. We had a wonderful time. She arrived Saturday morning and spent some time with Nancy and two of her daughters. They came to my house for dinner and more visiting. Janice and I made a delicious dinner for everyone. Janice's vegetable kabobs were out of this world!! Definitely the hit of the night. Well, my homemade key lime pies went over pretty well too. Sue turned the big 5-0 in October, so in typical Glyman fashion we celebrated 4 months late. Susie enjoyed opening a few gifts and I bought and arranged these flowers for both of us to enjoy. They we're in her honor because she couldn't take them home.

We all met at The Spa at Camelback Inn, aka heaven on earth, on Sunday . We had lunch, spa treatments, we sat in the steam room and took hot showers. Nancy took 3 showers while she was there, isn't that funny. :) After the spa time we went to Nordstoms at the Scottsdale Fashion Square and did a little shopping. We had fun looking at purses and shoes. I particularly loved the Burberry purses but they don't go well with my pizza budget. Either do the $525 shoes, gimme my New Balance, thankyouverymuch.

I do like this little number.

After shopping we had a nice dinner at a hot spot in Phoenix called La Grande Orange. It's all the rage. It has a very European feel. There is a market attached to the restaurant and it has all sorts of specialty food items, flowers, wines and very cute La Grande t-shits. More importantly we were able to sit and visit some more.

It was a wonderful visit.
Susie, you need to come more often!!

My Little Peach Tree

My internet friends that live in the South might laugh at this little tree and to be honest, it is nothing special except for a few weeks while it is in bloom. It bears very small fruit and the minute the birds discover it the fruit is devoured.

It's a pretty little tree right now and maybe someday it will amount to something special. We'll just have to wait and see...

Valentine's Day

Curtsy to The Common Room: Happy Valentines' Day

Make yours here.

I am determined to get through this day without eating even one piece of candy. Our house is swarming with the stuff. Wish me luck.

Dinner tonight for all 6 of my sweeties:

Salmon
Garden Salad
Baked Asparagus
Dinner rolls and
A heart shaped chocolate cake

Have a blessed day.

UPDATE: I have permission from my husband to share with you what he wrote in my Valentine's card. I read it after he left for work and stood in amazement.

"I fell into a pile of you and got love all over me" Love Dave.

WHAT? What is that? Huh. Weirdo. lol

I googled it and found out that it is a (horrible) title of a country western song.

Well, that makes sense.

My dear husband heard it quoted earlier this week while he was in Dallas on business.

My sweet romantic husband.

Great Tunes

HT or (as Kim says) a curtsy to my daughter Hannah for letting us know about Corinne Bailey Rae. I love it that my kiddos are old enough to clue me in to great music (sometimes it's not so great). Corinne's web page is really cute. I like the butterflies.

This is part of her bio.:
"I started off singing in church, I suppose, but people think it must have been a gospel church because of the whole, you know, black assumption," she says in reference to her mixed-race background. "But it wasn't gospel at all, it was just your regular brethren church, very middle-class, where we would sing these harmonies every Sunday. It was always my favourite part of the service, the singing."

I'd classify her sound as Jazz/R&B/Soul.

I think I prefer her upbeat music.

I've downloaded these three songs to my iPod:

Like A Star

Trouble Sleeping

Put Your Records On

Here is the amazon link.

Let me know what you think.

The Real Deal

Dy and MFS posted pictures of themselves that show the real person behind the blog. I think it is a great idea. So, here it is. This picture was taken last spring in San Diego, that is why I look happy and relaxed. I chopped my husband out of the picture but you can see his shiny forehead if you look closely. :) I decided to post this one because I think it is the closest to how I look on a daily basis. I love my jean jacket.

I have met Dy in real life and let me tell ya she is as beautiful in person as she is in those pictures! And MFS, well, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a full picture of her face (she's usually hiding behind a book) so it is really fun to meet her, go take a look! I hope more ladies in the blogsphere will do this, it really is fun to get to know the gals!

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Powerful

From Keep A Quiet Heart
By Elisabeth Elliot

An Old Prayer

"Christians in the Orthodox Church use a prayer called the Jesus Prayer. Sometime they pray it in the rhythm of breathing, learning in this way almost to "pray without ceasing". The words are simple, but they cover everything we need to ask for ourselves and others. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us."

"The Jesus Prayer was one my husband Add and I often used together when he was dying of cancer, when we seemed to have "used up" all the other prayers. I recommend it to you."

Lord, have mercy on us.

Da Bears!!!

I am a huge Chicago Bear's fan. Always have been.

Even when we moved to Wisconsin, I cheered for the Bears.

I am excited about the Superbowl. It appears that both of the head coaches are godly Christian men and that many of the players have been positively influenced by these men.

I love anyone with the name Lovie.

Go Bears.

"Not My Best"

When Hannah was little I would ask her to vacuum and she would say "Um, well, vacuuming is not my best" meaning, I don't really feel like vacuuming right now and I don't really like it either. I would also hear those three words when asked if she liked a particular meal I prepared. "No thank you, it's not my best". As you can imagine that little saying has stuck around our house. Janice likes to say it once in a while too.

Remember the Bolognese Pasta recipe I posted here?

Well, it's not my best.

I ended up adding all sorts of stuff to it to add flavor and spice. I added a few teaspoons of Italian seasoning mix, red pepper flakes and extra diced tomatoes. Two nights later when Dave and I ate it for leftovers I added a small can of tomato sauce and another can of diced tomatoes. I had so much left I gave my friend Stacey a big helping and she added Classico sauce to jazz it up.

I thought I should give a report since I posted a recipe I hadn't even tried before and it wasn't my best.

On My Knees

Will you join me in praying for Ruthanne. She is in labor right now and on her way to the hospital in traffic.

I followed their last labor and delivery. Her husband Jay uses a Blackberry (I think) and gives very regular updates from the hospital. It's great fun!

So pray, pray, pray.

This is blessing #9 for the Shepherds. :)
